Siren Music Festival 2007

I hit up the Siren Music Festival just cuz it was in Coney Island, which is a couple of blocks away from me. It was alright. I mainly went there cuz I thought I could get a couple of good photos but lost motivation as soon as I got there cuz the whole event was not my scene. I felt like I was in a grimey williamsburg bar. Which can be fun but not when its combined with heat and vendors at every step trying to sell you either Jesus or Food.

I've lived here for almost 10 years now and I have only been to the amusement park a couple of times. Since this might be the last summer the original Astroland will be alive I propose we make a Vane Family Field Trip down here one day and just kick it, who's down?!

Time to cook my own film!

Like I mentioned before I got a Hasselblad which means that I have to shoot film. Thats great and all, I love how it looks and shooting tri-X is a treat. However it's a bit expensive, film is $2-3 and processing is $8. Yeah thats not a lot but with the amount I would like to shoot that will add up. I am gong to attempt to process my own film. I will be using the following chemicals.

Developer XTOL powder to make 5 liters $9.19 at B&H

Stop bath: Kodak Indicator Stop liquid to make 8 gal $5.69

Fixer: Kodak Rapid Fix A+B $8.65

That is significantly cheaper that using a lab. Now since I dont have enough space to set up a whole darkroom with an enlarger and trays I think I am going to buy a medium format scanner and make work scans with that.

If anyone is interested in processing their own film I will be posting the whole procedure in detail. If you got some time on your hands and shoot black an white film you must try it. Maybe I'm just a photo nerd but it's pretty fascinating to put your film into a tank and after 30 minutes see negatives of images you shot.

Hasselbladin

I just bought a Hasselblad and two lenses for it. Great medium format Swedish camera. I'm getting back into taking some ill portraits and, in my opinion, this is the best format and camera for that. Here are two images I took on the first roll. More to come soon.
